Captain’s View

Situated right on the water in Lambert’s Bay, this original house was built by an old sea captain. Being in such close proximity to the water while on duty, his heart longed for nothing but the land when arriving safely back to his family at shore.
The existing layout of the house mimics just that. It completely turns its back on the mighty ocean a mere sight away, where the only glimpse of the glimmering water can be found from a teeny window in the kitchen pantry.

It was thus the mission of DS BRAND to turn the old sea captain’s philosophy on its head.
Breaking through the existing internalised rooms we opened up the home – creating a seamless, breathable transition between all living spaces with 1 predominant focal point.

Creating privacy while not compromising the view was the main objective throughout the spaces seen from the beach.
Stepping down into these areas while slightly raising the boundary wall created the much needed eye level split between public and private.

Finishing off this ‘huisie-by-die-see’ we settled on a contemporary West Coast look and feel. Just enough of an elegant twist to make a statement while still fitting into its surroundings.
